UV light is found in sunlight and is emitted by electric arcs and specialized lights such as black lights. As an ionizing radiation, it can cause chemical reactions, and causes many substances to glow or fluoresce. UV rays are damaging to printed materials over time. For this reason, prints that will be exposed to UV sources include UV filters in the inks, a liquid coating, overlaminate, or any combination thereof.
