Moiré is most commonly an unsightly byproduct of improper screen angles used for offset printing or attempting to scan and and reprint art with a new screen applied. The first issue is resolved by allowing the image processing unit to establish the angles rather than overriding and manually typing in values. Stochastic screening uses randomized dots to eliminate potential moiré patterns. Photos or art appearing in publications should not be scanned for reprinting. Frequently, the publisher or someone known by him has a copyright on the image. Additionally, attempts to remove dots require degrading image quality employing blurring and other techniques with only limited success.
