Adobe Photoshop has its art filters but Corel Painter X has long been held as the standard for digital drawing and painting applications. The Corel Web site suggests: "In recent years, Corel Painter has sparked a new trend in the professional photography market as photographers explore the creative possibilities of turning their photographs into paintings. Corel Painter X offers photographers new revenue streams by making it easier than ever to create breathtaking, hand-painted works of art from their photographs." Stunning examples are available in the Painter X section of the Web site. What stands between such a venture for many is the daunting interface and hefty price tag -- over four C notes and a steep learning curve. But those who master its interface are rewarded for their efforts.
